The work we do

Our Board’s strategic mandates are as follows:

1. “Advocate good practice”. We will gather and present the evidence to persuade you that good people management enhances organisational effectiveness.
2, “Stimulate and facilitate learning”. We see learning as a process contributing to organisational effectiveness, and will create and offer you the spaces and opportunities that enable your organisation to learn from us and others to improve your human resources systems, policies and practice.
3. “Strengthen capacity”. We will support you and equip you with the skills and tools that enable you to strengthen your organisation’s HR and people management capacity.
4. “Recognise achievement”. We will certify and publicly acknowledge the commitment and improvements you make in your human resources management.

We achieve these priorities through a mixture of services and outputs including research, publications, workshops, conferences, interactive forums, benchmarking, audit and certification, networking and advocacy. We offer these, as the sector’s established hub for people-related issues, to all individuals and organisations working in the sector, with our members receiving priority and discounts. We also offer bespoke services, responding to a specific member’s internal needs to strengthen some aspect of their HR and people management. If you have a need please ask us. Organisations which have contracted us in such a way to date include: Netherlands Red Cross Society, The Brooke, Tearfund, GAA, IRIN (Nairobi), AVI and Muslim Aid.


Energising and exciting to be part of the conference community for three days... I've found ideas and solutions for some questions I am facing at work, practical ideas to take back to my organisation, and lot more questions to spark discussion with colleagues.
