How we work

We exist to help agencies work more effectively. To do this we will respond wherever we are needed and can add value – and where resources are available. We are currently entering a phase of international growth which will involve increasing our work with partners. Partners we already have, or are talking to, include:

  • International NGOs committed to working with their partners in other countries.
  • Donors committed to improving the quality of performance in the relief and development sector.
  • Local or regional training organisations with human resources or organisational development experience.
  • Local or regional capacity-building organisations looking for interventions and solutions specific to human resources.
  • Consultants with experience of human resources in the not-for profit sector.
  • Trans-national organisations committed to building capacity of NGOs.

Quality and Accountability

People In Aid belongs to a group of organisations focussed on improving quality and accountability in the humanitarian sector. Full details

During the past decade the humanitarian community has initiated a number of inter-agency initiatives to improve accountability, quality and performance in humanitarian action. Some of the more widely known initiatives meet together on a regular basis in order to share common issues and harmonise activities where possible.

Emergency Personnel Network

Ten seminars for HR managers involved in humanitarian work have taken place since 1997. Initiated by RedR and now managed by People In Aid these seminars have covered a wide range of HR topics and have been held in Europe, America, Asia and Africa.  Details of each of the seminars can be found on the EPN website

Setting the Standard

The issue of child protection requires considerable involvement from the HR function. We have contributed to this inter-agency group which has produced training materials which can be ordered from the Keeping Children Safe website

Implementing the Code

People In Aid plans to implement our own Code of Good Practice and has issued a statement detailing our reasons.
