Salary review
Salaries may be reviewed for a number of reasons:
Individual ad-hoc reviews
- To correct errors at recruitment
- To reflect promotion or re-grading of post
Adjustments to pay scales
- to correct anomalies
- to bring in line with other organisations
Annual increments
- fixed, automatic or performance related?
- but for how many years?
Cost of living
- especially important where this high inflation in payment currency
- same percentage for all?
- challenge of assessing
Risks include:
- Reviewing salaries too often and thereby raising expectations of equally regular reviews in future especially if each review results in increases.
- Reviewing salaries too infrequently and thereby creating resentment, especially if team members feel the salaries are unjust.
