Squalor (case study)

The team was working very hard in difficult conditions. New team members were initially shocked by the living and working conditions but very soon accepted them as "normal".

Team members started to fall sick from the very diseases associated with poor hygiene which they were fighting against in the refugee camps. Within weeks nearly half the team was seriously ill. Their programme and the refugees suffered unnecessarily.

The original budget had included two logisticians, the first to focus on programme activities, the second to concentrate on setting up an office and living accommodation. The second logistician post had been cut in the face of funding difficulties.
