Ben Emmens leaving People In Aid
After close to ten years with us, Ben Emmens is leaving his role of Director of HR Services at People In Aid. We have kept him far longer than he expected and we dared hope, owing to the excitement and centrality of the role that he occupied in the sector, and which he grew so skillfully alongside the quantity and quality our output and services, relevance and credibility of our messages.
Such a change presents both an opportunity and a challenge for People In Aid. We are reviewing carefully what we do but it is unlikely that we will recruit an immediate full-time replacement.
Ben’s role has been a unique one and one which has grown over time, shaped by his skills. Looking forward, the Trustees of People In Aid are mindful of our commitment to the Joint Standards Initiative and the changes this may bring in early 2013.
Internally we have a succession in place already. In January this year, Maduri Moutou, our HR Services Team Leader, took over from Ben the responsibility for planning, budgeting and managing our HR services and outputs on behalf of members. We still have sound HR knowledge and experience in the HR Services Team, which we strengthened in late 2011, with Maduri, Emmanuelle Lacroix and Erika Stankeviciute in London, and Teresa Kamara in Nairobi. We are confident that the formidable experience and range of strategic and operational skills which Teresa brings will be a major contribution wider than her current regional focus.
In addition, our trusted Partner Consultant Network, developed over the last eighteen months, is capable of responding to agency needs around the world.
All that being said, we know that we can never replace Ben’s personality or the contribution he has made to People In Aid over the last decade. We thank him enormously and on behalf of our staff, members and partners we will miss him.
